The Native
The Native brings food production back into the East End, creating a space to grow, purchase and dine with other neighbors. This site is a local hub for individuals to come together, in a larger group effort, offering places where people can gather, network, and identify together as residents of a neighborhood.

Custom white oak refrigerated display case and signage was designed to draw the customer to the fresh produce and invoke a sense of home.
In the pantry section, the three aisles have open sightlines, provoking a warm "home" feel while on a linear path through the aisles. The zone is meant to feel like the 'in between' space with contrasting wood material shelving. The larger globe pendants are used as general section wayfinding, then lasercut vinyl aisle and shelf signage is used to help find specific products.
Architectural devices are used to create a shared experience within one space. Here the outdoor cafe banquette curves back into the window and extends in to a standing height countertop for someone to take a quick rest and look out the window.
The market, cafe and garden name ‘Native’ was chosen for its relevance to the local community as well as connection to local produce and products. Branding and packaging designed by Sara Schmetterling.
